Books at the Eleventh Hour 2017-2018
Chair: Kathy Kroll, 765-337-4370
Meetings: 2nd Monday, 11:00 am, The group meets throughout the year. The meeting is held at a restaurant or coffee house determined by the members
Participation Fee: There is no group participation fee. The cost of food and beverage is the responsibility of the member. As for book costs, most books can be borrowed from the library. A member may choose to purchase her own copy.
Our meetings are characterized by a lively, small group discussion of the book selected for that month. One person volunteers to facilitate the discussion. Many of the members elect to stay for lunch afterwards at their own expense. Our book selections cover a wide variety of topics in both fiction and nonfiction genres. At the end of the year, members recommend books for the following year. Usually a book from each member’s list is included in the reading list for the following year. Currently, there are a limited number of member spaces available, dependent on venue space etc. Club members RSVP to Bonnie Hiatt.
Upcoming books include: Circling the Sun by Paula McLain, Out of Africa by Isak Dinesen, In the Garden of Beasts by Erik Larsen, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne, Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis by J. D. Vance, Being Mortal by Atul Gawande and Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kiline. Members are responsible for procuring the books either from the library or by purchasing them.
