A Novel GroupAll group members read and discuss the same book each month. As the month’s book is selected by a single member (not committee) we get a wide variety of books: mostly novels, but also memoirs and non-fiction. We will look at local COVID rates in deciding whether to meet in person or via Zoom. During the pandemic, we continued to meet as a group via Zoom. April 2022 was our first in-person meeting since the pandemic began. In Fall 2022 we have been meeting outdoors or in large indoor spaces, such as the Fresh Thyme Community Room. Each month a member serves as book facilitator, who chooses the book and leads discussion. We rotate through the group, so each member will serve as facilitator roughly once a year.
Each month we RSVP via a Evite.com reminder. In March we may move the meeting up one week to avoid Purdue’s Spring Break, but otherwise we meet the 2nd Wednesday at 7 p.m.. We do not meet in July as many members are out of town. Here is what we read for 2022-23 as a sample: The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane by Lisa See Women of Chateau Lafayette by Stephanie Dray The Smallest Lights in the Universe: A Memoir by Sara Seager It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia Rock, Paper, Scissors by Alice Feeney Chelsea Girls by Fiona Davis King of the Mild Frontier (An Ill-Advised Autobiography) by Chris Crutcher You Can't Be Serious by Kal Penn The Sympathizer by Viet Thanh Nguyen Atomic Habits by James Clear The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah Salt: A World History by Mark Kurlansky Self-Portrait with Nothing by Aimee Pokwatka Tomorrow & Tomorrow & Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin |
