Passing of Former PWC President Jeanne Compton
I deeply regret to inform you that Jeanne Compton, Past President of the Purdue Women’s Club (1997-98) passed away on Monday.
Jeanne enjoyed working with people, often reaching out to host new West Lafayette residents and graduate students to entertain and welcome them. She enjoyed cooking and gardening. Jeanne was always an activist for the important cultural causes in West Lafayette including volunteering for the Lafayette Symphony Guild, actively participating in social clubs like The Monday Club, The Happy Hollow Garden Club, The International Friendship Group, The John Purdue Club for the Arts, The Current Topics Club, an active member and supporter of the Art League and the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette. She and Dale established an endowment for Artistic Excellence with Purdue Convocations, which was beneficial to performances by The Merce Cunningham Dance Company, the Joffrey Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Company, Yo-Yo Ma, and the National Theatre of Scotland, among others. She was also a partner in a small business, Temptations Dress Shop.
A visitation will be held Friday, September 23, 2016 from 4:00-7:00 PM and a service on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 10:30AM, both at the Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel, 1184 Sagamore Pkwy W. West Lafayette, IN 47906.
Burial will follow the Saturday funeral service in Chrisman, IL at Hoult Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Purdue Convocations: https://www.purdue.edu/convocations/support/ in Jeanne’s name.

Passing of Former PWC President Mary Ann McCarthy
I deeply regret to inform you that Mary Ann McCarthy, Past President of the Purdue Women’s Club (1992-93) and longtime member, passed away on Monday, May 2nd, 2016 at IU Health Arnett Hospital.
Mary Ann graduated from Garfield Heights High School, and received her Registered Nurse degree from St. Alexis School of Nursing in Cleveland, OH. Mary Ann attended Case Western Reserve University and St John’s College in Cleveland, OH and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN. In 1957 Mary Ann married Gerald Duane McCarthy of Alton, IA and they traveled extensively with Gerald’s career as a naval officer. They retired in West Lafayette. Employment included St Alexis Hospital, The Visiting Nurse Association and University Hospitals in Cleveland. Locally her employment was with the School of Veterinary Medicine, Purdue University, Home Hospital, the YWCA and Riggs Community Health Center. Mary Ann was a member of P.E.O. Chapter AS and served two years as its president. Volunteer positions included the American Red Cross, where she served as Chairman of the Board, Delta Zeta Sorority and the Lafayette Alumnae Panhellenic Council. She has served as a member of the boards of the YMCA, Visiting Nurse Service, CASA for Kids Fund and was a CASA volunteer for ten years. She was a Life Member of the Purdue Alumni Association and a member of the John Purdue Club. She was a member of St. Ann’s Church. Hobbies included tennis, golf, travel and theater. Family and friends were an important part of her life. She has generously given of her time and talents to the community and has made a difference in her many endeavors.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 21, 2016 at St. Ann Catholic Church, 612 Wabash Ave, Lafayette, IN 47905. Mary Ann will be interned at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA at a later date.
