Participation Fee: None; some venues will have costs. When carpooling, passengers will underwrite fuel costs.
The Discovering Art & Artists interest group offers a variety of events both local and out of town. Any PWC member is welcome to join us as we explore many art forms and visit with various artists. Call one of the co-chairs to be included. Schedule will vary depending on exhibits and art events. Check the current newsletter and the PWC website.
Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017 – “Making It In Crafts”, current exhibit at the Art Museum of Lafayette, 102 S.10th Street, Lafayette.
11 a.m. Meet at museum for guided tour, featuring craft artisans from around the USA. Come answer the question… what Is ART and what is CRAFT?
12:45 p.m. Lunch at East End Grill. We will order from the menu. Kathy Stirlen, facilitator.
Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017 – Join the Art League on a 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Art Tour of Bonnie Zimmer’s Studio in Rensselaer. Bonnie is a Found Objects Artist. The group will have lunch at 11:30 a.m. at The Homestead in Remington, IN. Then the group will visit the studio for a 1:00 pm tour. Kitty Decker, facilitator.
Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017 – “Our Wonderful Women Artists: Who Are They? A fabulous fall program. All members of PWC are invited by museum director, Kendall Smith to the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette for a special Treasure Hunt through this featured exhibition. Join Sharon Theobald, certified art appraiser and art expert extraordinaire and Susan Chavers, of ArtSmart: Indiana in learning about these women artists. Spanning over 100 years, works by these women will show their creative versatility from 1890’s pottery by the museum’s founder, Laura Ann Fry to contemporary work by many living artists in our community, will be on display. The ArtSmart: Indiana team has researched each artist and many of their stories will be published on side panels beside their art. This exhibition celebrates all women through the eyes of artists. Meet at the museum at 11a.m. A drawing for an Art Museum membership will be held during lunch at the Lafayette Country Club. Your entree choice is Cobb Salad OR Frittata OR Michigan Salad. The $20 luncheon cost will include beverages plus a dessert of Crème Brûlée and the tax & gratuity. Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017 – We will carpool for a road trip to the Frankfort public library for their annual Holiday Art Show & Sale. Meet at 9 a.m. in the Kittles parking lot. Great time to do some shopping. The group will decide where to have lunch. If unable to go when the group goes, the show is open on Fri. 7-9 p.m. with $50 donation or on Sun. 1-5 p.m. There is no admission charge on Sat. or Sunday. Kathy Stirlen, facilitator.
Tuesday, Mar. 27, 2018 – Join the Art League on a 10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. field trip to Joshua Smith’s Studio. Have lunch at Fair Oaks; then tour the studio at 1:00 pm. Kathy Stirlen, facilitator.
Tuesday, April 17, 2018 – Visit Twinrocker Handmade Paper; learn how this ancient process has been revived. While in Brookston, the travel group will lunch at Klein Brot Haus and check out the “B Boutique”. Kitty Decker, facilitator.
May 22 or 24, 2018 – Lunch at Bistro 501, downtown Lafayette. Plan for 2018-19; visit a Gallery.
